Creativity, Action, and Service
CAS is community involvement. The CAS requirement is a fundamental part of the IB program and takes seriously the importance of life outside the world of scholarship, providing a refreshing counterbalance to academic studies.
CAS stands for Creativity, Action, and Service.
Creativity is interrupted (interrupted should be interpreted) broadly to include a wide range of arts activities as well as the creativity students demonstrate in designing and implementing service projects.
Action can include not only participation in individual and team sports but also taking part in expeditions and in local or international projects.
Service involves interation (should be interaction in and with the community), such as the building of links with individuals or groups in the community. Service activities should not only involve doing things for others and(change “and” to “but also”) developing a real commitment with them.
Students are expected to be involved in CAS activities for a total of 150 hours during their Junior and Senior years of the IB Program. CAS activities may NOT involve monetary compensation or high school credit.
A system of self-evaluation encourages students to reflect on the benefits of CAS participation to themselves and to others, and the evaluate the inderstanding and insights aquired. (change highlighted phrase to evaluation of the understanding and insights acquired.)
